Homework

Math homework will be given almost every night. You can expect to have about 10-15 problems per night, which should take no more than about 30 minutes to complete. Homework may or may not be collected each day, but each assignment will be checked for a grade in one of two ways.
1. Homework which is collected will be graded for accuracy. You will receive a fractional grade based on the number of problems. Collected homework assignments can be corrected for an improved grade.
2. Homework which is not collected will be graded using the following points system and averaged together for weekly homework grades:

Grade Requirements
5 - ALL of the following are fulfilled:

• The assignment is on time.
• The assignment is written on a separate 8 ½ “ x 11” notebook paper—this includes worksheets.
• The assignment has a proper heading.
• The assignment is completed neatly.
• ALL work is shown.

4 - Four of the requirements have been met.
3 - Three of the requirements have been met.
2 - Two of the requirements have been met.
1 - One of the requirements has been met.
0 - No requirements have been met.

** Please note that only 4 and 5 are passing grades.

Late assignments will lose one point per day. You will also lose the opportunity to revise for an improved grade. Late assignments will not be accepted for a grade after 5 days, unless other arrangements have been made with Mrs. Maison.

Quizzes, Tests, and Projects

Quizzes will be given with or without prior warning. They will not count as much as tests and projects. Quizzes can be corrected for improved grades.

Tests will be given every other Friday, unless you are told otherwise. You will be told in advance what information will be on the test. Tests cannot be revised for improved grades.

Projects will be given randomly throughout the school year. You will be given class time to work on the projects, but you will also be expected to work on them outside of class. Projects cannot be revised for improved grades.

Participation

Your daily participation will be graded using the following points system and averaged together for weekly participation grades:

Grade Requirements
5 - ALL of the following are fulfilled:
• You are to class on time.
• You have your notebook, textbook, pencil and daily folder (with planner) with you at the beginning of class.
• You raise your hand to participate in class discussions.
• You take appropriate notes.
• You are cooperative, respectful and attentive.
4 - Four of the requirements have been met.
3 - Three of the requirements have been met.
2 - Two of the requirements have been met.
1 - One of the requirements has been met.
0 - No requirements have been met.
** Please note that only 4 and 5 are passing grades.

Improving Grades

You have the opportunity to revise assignments (collected homework and quizzes) for an improved grade. You will have two days to fix your mistakes and show the revisions to Mrs. Maison. Revisions should be done on a separate piece of paper and attached to the original assignment. After two days, your original grade on the assignment will stand.

Getting Help in Math

Mrs. Maison is available 10th period to offer help to anyone. It is important that students see Mrs. Maison any time that they are confused.

Organization

Staying organized is crucial. Students are given math menus, notes and homework assignments, all of which provide extra practice problems. These items can help them at study time, but only if they can find them.

Overall Math Grade

It is virtually impossible to do poorly in Math as long as you complete your homework, participate in class and revise your assignments. Don’t forget to study for your quizzes and tests as well.
