Why teaching? Why math? I have always thought that I would become a teacher. I am from a family of teachers. When I was a little girl, I would play school in my basement. I had a chalkboard and some old textbooks. My little brother and my stuffed animals were my students. I have always loved math. It was my best subject when I was in school and it always seemed to come easily to me. I used to tutor fellow classmates who were struggling. It just seemed natural that I would someday teach math. When the offer to teach 5th and 6th grade math came my way, I didn't hesitate to take it. It combined two of my loves...math and teaching. I enjoy every day at my job. The students make my work fun and challenging. I hope that I am creating that same environment for them in the math classroom.
My Education and Career I graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 1997 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I received my Master's Degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from SUNY Albany in 2003. I began my teaching career at MCS in 1998 when I was hired as a full-time substitute teacher and then worked as an LTA in one of the 1st grade classrooms. In 1999, I was offered the 5th and 6th math teaching position.
My Family My husband, Matt, and I have been together for 14 years. We actually went to kindergarten together. We began dating when we were teenagers and were married in July 2000. Matt and I had our first child in February 2003. Hailey is a bright child with a lot of energy. She definitely keeps us busy, but with smiles on our faces. We had our second child in April 2006. Delaney is such a wonderful girl, always smiling and giggling. She has a wonderful smile. Our family also includes a dog and two cats. Our dog is a Golden Retriever named Riley. It is short for All Riled Up, which describes him perfectly. One of our cats is named Finnegan and he is quite a handful. He likes to steal objects off the coffee table and hide them in our shoes. Our other cat is named Grady. He is bashful, but loves to eat.
Here are some pictures of our family.
